Portugal Grand Prix 2027 in Portimão: dates, tickets and where to stay

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Formula 1 is coming back to the Algarve. After six years away, the Portuguese Grand Prix returns to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão on 18-20 June 2027, with the race on Sunday 20 June. The deal covers two seasons, 2027 and 2028, so this is not a one-off.

If you are thinking of making a week of it, here is what we know so far, and how to enjoy race weekend without the crowds.

The key dates

  • Friday 18 June 2027: practice
  • Saturday 19 June: qualifying
  • Sunday 20 June: race day

The official name is the Formula 1 MSC Cruises Grande Prémio de Portugal 2027. Mid-June is a smart choice: long, sunny days, a sea that is warming up, and it comes before the peak of the July and August holidays.

Tickets: what we know

  • Official sales opened on 21 September 2026, through the event's official website (portugalf1gp.com) and Formula 1's ticketing site.
  • The first phase offered 3-day passes only. Portuguese press reported prices of about €300 for general admission and up to around €700 for grandstands. These passes include shuttle transport, the fan zone and concerts. Single-day tickets are expected in a later phase.
  • Organisers plan to cap attendance at about 80,000 spectators, and expect around 150,000 spectators over the weekend, more than half of them from abroad.

Prices and conditions can change: always check the official ticketing pages before you plan.

Getting to the circuit

The circuit sits in the hills just north of Portimão. It is roughly 25 km by road from Praia da Luz, usually a 25-30 minute drive outside race traffic. The organisers have announced park & ride services from Portimão and Lagos; details are still to come. Faro airport is about an hour's drive away.

Local tip: on race day, leave early and plan your return after the crowds have thinned. A late lunch by the sea is much nicer than a traffic jam.

Where to stay for race weekend

Hotels right next to the circuit fill up first, and race traffic is heavy around Portimão. Many visitors prefer a quieter base on the coast and drive in on the day:

  • Portimão and Praia da Rocha: the closest, lively, and the busiest on race weekend.
  • Alvor: a small fishing village with a long beach, close to the circuit.
  • Lagos: historic town centre, marina and restaurants, around 20 km away.
  • Praia da Luz: a calm seaside village just west of Lagos, around 25 km away, where we live and host our guests.

For a group of friends or two families, renting a private villa for the week is often simpler than booking several hotel rooms, and it leaves time to enjoy the Algarve beyond the race.

Make it a week, not just a weekend

  • Ponta da Piedade in Lagos, with its golden cliffs and sea caves.
  • The Rocha Negra walk above Praia da Luz.
  • Boat trips along the coast, from Lagos marina.
  • Golf at one of the many courses nearby.
  • Fresh fish in a seafront restaurant in Luz or Lagos.
